Company: Morris Hoeft Group
We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Rebecca Hoeft : Morris Hoeft Group operates with a core team of senior strategists, creatives, and technologists, supported by a trusted network of fractional CMOs and specialists. We intentionally keep the team lean and agile so we can build custom teams around each client’s needs — giving them access to world-class talent without the overhead of a full-time marketing department. Today we have a team of just over a dozen.
How has the significance of networking evolved over the past decades?
Rebecca Hoeft : Networking used to be about collecting business cards and making surface-level contacts. Today, it’s about building trust, relationships, and communities. People want to work with brands and leaders who feel authentic and aligned with their values. Networking is no longer transactional – it’s relational…and, as a result, transformational.
Can you share a personal story where one networking interaction led to unexpected doors opening, and how it highlights the ripple effect of networking?
Rebecca Hoeft : Years ago, I spoke at an event about aligning strategy with impact – connecting head and heart to build lasting relationships. Neuroscience-backed marketing tools show that when emotion and logic work together, brand connections stick. Pair that with design thinking principles, and you create growth that’s both human-centered and scalable. After that talk, one person introduced me to a nonprofit leader, which led to Morris Hoeft Group being invited into a high-profile fintech project. That single connection not only elevated our visibility but gave us the chance to create measurable impact across entire communities in the United States. It’s proof that one authentic relationship can spark ripple effects far beyond what you could ever plan.
What are some common networking mistakes people make, and how can they pivot to turn potential missteps into learning experiences?
Rebecca Hoeft : The biggest mistake is approaching networking with a “What can I get?” mindset. When people lead with extraction instead of contribution, they miss the chance to build real trust. One of my MIT professors taught me a principle I live by: be interested, not interesting. The pivot is simple – lead with generosity. Ask, “What do you need?” or “How can I support you?” Those questions open doors much faster, and in far more meaningful ways, than any hard pitch ever will.
How do you see the future of networking evolving with the rise of AI, VR, and other technologies?
Rebecca Hoeft : Technology will make it easier to connect, but human connection will remain the differentiator. AI can help us find aligned people faster. VR can create immersive networking spaces. But the future belongs to those who know how to blend technology with authenticity. At Morris Hoeft Group, we believe the best networks will be the ones that feel human – powered by impact, amplified by tech.
